The first drug to be approved for treating erectile dysfunction, Viagra, won approval last week from US and European regulators.
Viagra, approved in December, is already on the market with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) warning it could cause heart attack and stroke.
In June, the FDA issued a warning about taking too much sildenafil (sold under the brand name Viagra) to help with heart problems.
"If you take more sildenafil than is safe for you, you should have a severe heart attack, stroke, or life-threatening heart failure," the agency said in the FDA's announcement.
The drug was originally developed as a treatment for high blood pressure. But researchers found the medicine caused heart problems and other problems with heart rhythm.
In November, the FDA approved sildenafil as a treatment for heart failure.
The drug is marketed as Viagra by Pfizer Inc. in the U. and in Europe under the brand name Sildenafil.
